![]() Mr. William Kelly, owner of the Galaxy, gives a rundown of what the Galaxy has been up to during the off-season to prepare for 2017 WBCBL Season: June 25th 2016: we held our 1st Tryout event. By utilizing only word of mouth promoting we were able to get 5 amazing players to show up. Being in our early days we were trying to figure out our steps as we walked. This group is called our "day ones", we built around them. After a small success with the 1st tryout event I figured out how I wanted to build my program. So In reaching out I was able to make a connection with the Chicago Sky WNBA team. We created a mentorship relationship by giving us opportunities to be able promote our players and meet professional players to encourage the players of our program. We spent a day with several players and staff of the Sky, played in a scrimmage game against another team and enjoyed a great game as the Sky played Phoenix. September 18th 2016: we held our 2nd tryout event. We aggressively promoted with a game plan on how to actually make our team successful in our region. We had a great turnout and knew we would sign many of these players. August 19th 2016: We made a partnership with the West Michigan Whitecaps. They are the feeder team to the Detroit Tigers MLB team. We were allowed to promote and create a partnership which will and have helped us today. We had a great time sharing with over 9000 people of a new woman's basketball team coming to the area. October 29th 2016: We partnered with the Boys and Girls club of greater Grand Rapids. We set up basketball stations in the gym during a Halloween family fun event and costume contest. November 13th 2016: We hosted our team media day. We decided to have it early so we can promote and market accordingly, for it’s hard to promote a team without players. We left a few spots open intentionally because we knew word would spread fast and not everyone had heard about us yet. This day we officially signed 13 players and our 4 coaches. January 12th 2017: We were invited on a local TV show centered around positive things going on in the community. Also focused on promoting Women empowerment combined with community relations. A few players were interviewed to share what it means to them to be able to pursue their dreams as well as being the 1st women's team in West Michigan. February 28th, 2017: We are excited to share our latest partnership with The Gazelle Foundation. We are a proud sponsor of the Gazelle Girls 5K & marathon event on April 23rd. Please stay tuned for more announcements for this great event! Gazelle Girl Half Marathon |
