Charlotte, N.C. - A hometown hero shares her champion spirit which has taken her from an apartment on West Boulevard to an arena on the West Coast. Tonya Phifer announced ownership of a Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League franchise called the Charlotte Invasion back in 2013 and just 2 short years later, she brought home a national championship! Now having just won the Carolinas Region Tournament and being crowned #1 in the region for back to back seasons, she is taking her team back to nationals to defend their title!
Phifer was born and raised on West Blvd and educated in the Charlotte area with scholarships to Charlotte Latin and later UNC-Charlotte - she still holds records at both schools. Phifer has a long list of career achievements, but being able to provide educational outreach to athletes and promote heart healthy lifestyles is the most rewarding.
Charlotte Invasion has established relationships with organizations in the Charlotte area with similar missions and dedication to the community, such as the Omar Carter Charity, American Cancer Society, Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation, and many more. The purpose is to succeed on and off the court. On the court, winning championships is a way to show that with hard work and dedication – anything is possible, but off the court, mobilizing community resource ambassadors and providing children an athletic outlet is the focus of this hometown team.
Charlotte Invasion is looking for Charlotteans to rally with them and help them blaze a championship trail from West Blvd to San Antonio, TX! They want to bring home another championship and they need help to do it! To donate - visit www.gofundme.com/backtoback and show your champion spirit!
