Augusta, Ga. July 21, 2016- Sweeping through the region, The Georgia Soul Women’s Basketball Organization is well on their way to one of their primary goals for their breakout season, of making it to the National tournament for the first time. The Soul is currently first place in the Atlantic Region, which is comprised of four teams. They are only two games shy from The WBCBL National Tournament in San Antonio, TX.
This Saturday, the Georgia Soul will be traveling to Beaufort, SC to take on the number 4 seeded Beaufort Bison at 10:30AM for Game 1 of the regional tournament at Beaufort High School. If the Soul triumphs over the Beaufort Bison, they will advance to the regional Championship game, facing the winner of game 2, the South Carolina Storm or the Capital City Cougars, at 4:30PM.
The Georgia Soul is currently undefeated within the region and holds a 9-3 record overall, and tied for 4th overall in the WBCBL. Lacoya Terry holds the most points by any player in WBCBL Atlantic Region this season with 262 points and is 9th in the leagues overall scoring, and leads the team with 21.8ppg and 3.8 apg.
The Soul is shaking up the region, as the new addition. Gratified owner Ernesia Wright states, “Regardless of what happens on Saturday we have already made history, I am proud of these ladies and the dedicated staff and supportive fans we have.” The Soul just might have what it takes to represent the proverbial “Soulful” City of Augusta, GA in San Antonio, TX, for the WBCBL Nationals.

Usually you hear about post players having a great day on the boards, rebound after rebound after rebound. Well in this case big things come in small packages. On July 2, 2016 against the Arkansas Stingers the starting shooting guard for the San Antonio Crusaders Len'Nique Brown (5'7") recorded 19 rebounds which made her #3 on the WBCBL all-time rebounding list for players under 6'0". Len'Nique Brown has been very dominant on the court recording a couple of double-doubles and one triple-double (Points-18, Assists-10,Rebounds-10) the very next week against the Dallas Crest. She currently has 81 total rebounds and is tied for 3rd in the league with teammate Adah Wells. Not to be out done, San Antonio Crusaders starting point guard Erica Cray (5'3") decided it was time for her to break into the record books also. July 16th, 2016 was the last home game for the Crusaders and Erica Cray recorded 20 rebounds which made her #2 on the WBCBL all-time rebounding list for players under 6'0". She had a stellar performance that game recording 9 points, 20 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 steals. In the WBCBL she is currently #1 in total assists with 54 and is tied for #2 in steals with 21. The game is measured by the heart, not the frame, this is why big things comes from small packages!

In May, no-one would have believed that the South Carolina Storm, during June and July would, finish 2nd in the Atlantic region and go 4-2 in those months.
In the season finale against the Capital City Cougars, we set a team personal best attendance record of 115 people, topped with a hard fought victory.
"Our ladies are very enthused to be in a position like this. It is the Storm's first time being one of the top seeded teams in the regional tournament and is looking to continue to make history. It hasn't been easy and our overall record doesn't show it but we have become HOOP PHI STRONG!"
