“It’s a Wonderful Christmas” Celebration Aims to Feed Over 300 Families
The Wardsworth House, OC Foundation, Resourceful Solutions II and Charlotte Invasion Partner Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte area organizations will come together to host the 17th Annual “It’s a Wonderful Christmas” Celebration on Sunday, December 21, at the Carol Heofner Center. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. and will conclude at 8 p.m. and will include dinner, guest speakers and toy presentations to over 300 families in need. Contributing sponsors such as ARJ, Belk, Coca-Cola, Yummy Tummy, Sam’s Club, Samaritan’s Purse, Toys for Tots, Walmart and others have helped make an impact in our community by signing up as year after year to give donations for this celebration. For the 17th year, they are joining together once again to bring blessings into the lives of families in need with food and toys. This year returning sponsors, The Wardsworth House and Resourceful Solutions II, welcome new organizations, OC Foundation and Charlotte Invasion, as presenting sponsors. Not only is there a celebration, including guest speakers and dinner, but each child will be presented with toys from their wish list provided by one of our contributing sponsors. This event is intended to put smiles on the faces, love in the hearts, and warm food in the stomachs of families from the Charlotte community. ![]() William and Toccara Tatum, Owners of the Winston Salem Lady Warcats have announced the hiring of Mr. and Mrs. Chris (Nicole) Geter as the Head and Associate Head Coach for the 2015 WBCBL Season. Coach Chris Geter is a native of Salisbury, NC. He attended the legendary Salisbury High School where he was a member of both the basketball and football teams. Coach Geter earned a scholarship to play football at the prestigious Winston Salem State University where he earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Physical Education and Parks & Recreation. Coach Geter began his coaching career at Simon G Atkins High School where he was an Assistant Coach to Bobby Moore Jr. on the Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team. He also mentored at Atkins from 2006-2009. Also at Atkins, Geter assisted in leading the Fighting Camels to a Regular Season Pac 6 Division Championship. In 2010, Coach Geter became the Boys’ Head JV Basketball Coach at Glenn High School (Winston Salem, NC). There, Geter lead the JV boys’ program to back-to-back winning seasons before joining the varsity staff as an Assistant Coach under Coach William "Monty" Gray in 2013 to present. Coach Shawanna “Nicole” Geter, a Winston-Salem native, attended George Washington Carver High School where she was a member of the two-time State Championship teams. Coach Geter was awarded a basketball scholarship to Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC where she was an Honors Student-Athlete. She was also a member of the Livingstone College softball and bowling teams. In 2002-2006, Coach Geter graduated Summa Cum Laude from Winston Salem State University with a Degree in Sociology and Psychology. Last but not least, she was one of the original members of the Winston Salem Lady Warcats, semi-pro basketball team where she lead the team in rebounding from 2011-2012. Together, Chris and Nicole are happily married with two kids and reside in Winston Salem, NC. Coming from humble beginnings, they are members of Mount Calvary Holy Church in Winston Salem, NC and live by the scripture: Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." “We are truly honored to be part of the Winston Salem Lady Warcats and the WBCBL. Under the Tatum’s reign the Warcats have posted a 27-20 record, making 2 WBCBL Nationals’ appearances. “It is our hopes that the Geters’ will take the Warcats to the next level as we are able to focus more on the operations side. With their coaching experience and our knowledge of the league, we hope to promote the Warcats so that we are more of a household name, acquiring sponsors, and securing more overseas contracts for our players” – William Tatum. Mr. Tatum will continue to assist the Warcats as the new Director of Operations as Toccara Tatum has recently been named the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League’s new Regional Director for the Carolinas Region. Tryouts for the 2015 season for the Warcats, will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Fulton Family YMCA in Winston Salem. Early registration ($35) can now be completed at www.ladywarcats.com until January 31st ![]() The Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) expansion brings more opportunity to south Texas by adding the San Antonio Crusaders of San Antonio, TX. The Crusader’s owner, Mr. Francois Gatson, is a native of Louisiana and served in the US Army. In December of 2013, he relocated to San Antonio and started the San Antonio Crusaders as a community organization in March 2014. Since 2005, Mr. Gaston has worked as a personal trainer and has been involved in professional sports, including a spot on the Houston Texans practice squad. The Crusaders are in the process of setting dates for team tryouts and will begin play in the upcoming 2015 season.
