![]() On Sunday, Atlanta's newest WBCBL team the Atlanta Monarchs recognized our men and women who served in the military while maintaining their 4-0 winning streak after defeating the Carolina Lady Rush at Northside Youth Organization in Atlanta. Before the game, I spoke with the team owner & CEO Tamika Milburn, about how she decided to start a women basketball team? 'We been working with kids for about five years who played basketball I wanted to have a team that they could watch and they look up to a team that could actually come out train them, mentor them work them and guide them in the path they want to go.' Milburn said. The game began with a shaky start, with the Carolina Lady Rush leading the game in 1st and 2nd quarter. By 3rd & 4th quarter the Monarchs dominated the Lady Rush pulling away with a 101-75 victory. 'We feel good! I mean I can't speak for myself but I speak for, on behalf of the team and how we have been playing last few four games. We been up and down it's been a roller coaster. But we stuck together we played hard. I mean every team has been good. We competed in every game and we actually scored 101 points today. That was a goal of ours.' Former Atlanta Dream guard Meighan Simmons (5'9''-G-92, college: Tennessee) said about the team's victory. The Monarch head coach is legendary Marynell Meadors (agency: Gamble Sports Management ) who is also the former Head coach and general manager for the Atlanta Dream. 'Well, I think we were just not playing really good defense at the very beginning of the game and we were a little bit sluggish for some reason. I don't know why that was, maybe they were a little bit tired but I really thought that we came back in the second half and played really good defense and then we threw a zone defense in and I think it caused the other team to get off balance a little bit.' Meadors said, about how the team changed from their shaky start. The Monarchs will honor Metro Atlanta's EMT, firefighters, and police officers at the next game against their rivals Georgia Stampede on June 2, 2018 at 7:00 pm EST. Be sure to check out the upcoming spectacular game all while honoring the people who make a difference in our community.
